Keeping the Faith

While living in New York City in 2021, I found myself paying particular attention to holidays, planning and throwing celebrations with my roommates just for the six of us. I realized that I was searching for things to look forward to and ways to make community – both lacking in recent years.

Keeping the Faith, a documentary project spanning February through May 2021, chronicles the religious celebrations and observances of New Yorkers in the midst of the COVID pandemic.

I was drawn to the topic as proof of incredible adaptability, the persistence of joy, and the comfort of togetherness and ritual. For this project I reached out to and was able to visit synagogues, churches, and mosques, and was welcomed warmly into celebration by laypeople and clergy each time.
